It has been so long since I blogged but life has been a bit crazy to say the least. If you want to know more about that you can read about it here: <a href="http://seefluffy.blogspot.com/2014/03/back-in-land-of-living.html" target="_blank">Coping with Guillain Barre Syndrome as a family</a>.<br />
<br />
While I haven't had much time to blog, I have had time to create. Just recently I created this cute sea shell themed baby shower invitation. I had never done a sea shell theme anything so it was nice to try something new. I used My Digital Studio to create it. If you don't already have Adobe Photoshop Elements or other photo editing program, then I suggest trying out My Digital Studio. It is super easy to use and they have tons of tutorial videos at their website to help. You can<a href="http://www.stampinup.com/ECWeb/ProductDetails.aspx?productID=130910" target="_blank"> try My Digital Studio free for 30 days</a> and the trial gives you full access. Pretty cool, huh?<br />

I ran the Lunar Rendezvous 5K Saturday morning and then rushed home to host a 14 hour crop with some amazing women in my home. The theme? Alice in Wonderland. I liked the movie as a kid but fell in love with it in 2010 when it came out again. I really enjoyed putting this on together. Right now I am just sharing the pictures. I'll put together the how to's and supply list later this week.<br />
<br />
No Madhatter Tea Pary would be complete without top hats. I made these top hats using my Silhouette and a cut file from the Silhouette store for a <a href="http://www.silhouetteonlinestore.com/?page=view-shape&id=25851" target="_blank">3D leprechaun hat</a>. You may recognize the stand as party of my centerpiece from the Breakfast at Tiffany's party. I looked for ways to display the hats in a box or something but the headbands and the bulkiness of the top hats made them fall over. I finally gave up and just put them on the branches...an accidental good idea. The frame has a quote from the movie. It is the exchange between the Madhatter and Alice. He asks if he has gone mad and she says yes but all the great ones are. <br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I love decorating for parties but I try to keep to a tight budget. I try to buy things on clearance or on sale. Dollar tree is one of my favorite stores. You have no idea how much you can get from the dollar store if you learn to think outside the box. I also use my 50% off coupons at Hobby Lobby and Michaels and I always start out in the clearance section. That is where I found these mugs. They are tea cups per se but we don't drink tea in our house so I bought coffee mugs. I wanted a colorful party so I bought them in colors I knew I could use in my home everyday.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOvQQib2CF6r4gwfxSMiOVplZO_XqRZSFGowrzkAGg1ECwohGQFDO3b_fDosKgI5PLT6XvSPgy68J6LVNhxH-sJ8XtIYuOIrd81J4zr_6uWdoGbgH_nL0_c3Gy1ahG29ZP0z0lPBXfEGlt/s1600/20130720_114205.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOvQQib2CF6r4gwfxSMiOVplZO_XqRZSFGowrzkAGg1ECwohGQFDO3b_fDosKgI5PLT6XvSPgy68J6LVNhxH-sJ8XtIYuOIrd81J4zr_6uWdoGbgH_nL0_c3Gy1ahG29ZP0z0lPBXfEGlt/s400/20130720_114205.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
They were a dollar each at my Hobby Lobby in the clearance section. the saucers (I wish I took a better picture of those) are from Tuesday Morning. Again they were in the clearance section (4 of them for $3.00). The feathers were $1.49 each at HL on sale. All the flowers came from the Dollar Store. The cut outs inside the top cup were from <a href="http://designsoncloud9.com/mad-tea-party-set.html" target="_blank">Cloud 9 Designs</a>. Hurry she has them on sale for $1.99 for the whole package, She had a 3D hat, teapot, teacup, clock invitation...just go see. I have about 7 frames that I bought from Ikea for about 1.99 each. I keep them around and change out the displays. For this party I used digital paper from Rhonna Farer Urban Junque kit from Twopeasinabucket. I can't find it there anymore but it is beautiful colorful paper. In MyDigitalStudio I created quote pages using Urban Junque. Here is a close up of one. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Frames with quotes are a great inexpensive way to decorate a party. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I also saw on Pinterest that someone stacked three mini top hats that reminded me of the lopsided cakes...so of course I had to make them. Behind them you will see the vase my husband gave me for mother's day and it has dollar store flowers inside it. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I made these guys from foam board that I found at the dollar store and cardstock. I just love them. Again, I used my Silhouette and cut out the hearts, letters and feet.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgq9YZHwHBpAX73cffiCJga_RYqzOwXMQVd8Q1fObUwonhpFsrShRtxQlBM3aBi6ihVrVJYGarVAEyBKv2zmQUfXAmzkwV7jdTvAYth7V3D96rJVCUIfeQ8tbUAPiSyKoLOXqUFBY51QFpB/s1600/20130720_114254.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgq9YZHwHBpAX73cffiCJga_RYqzOwXMQVd8Q1fObUwonhpFsrShRtxQlBM3aBi6ihVrVJYGarVAEyBKv2zmQUfXAmzkwV7jdTvAYth7V3D96rJVCUIfeQ8tbUAPiSyKoLOXqUFBY51QFpB/s320/20130720_114254.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I forgot to mention Goodwill...another great place for finds. I found these little white cups there. All 5 were $1.60 in total. As soon as I saw them, I knew I wanted to stamp faces on them. I have a set of faces from <a href="http://www.peachykeenstamps.com/index.php?pcsid=fd78a5b31f55b0ddb67cb7da3323ecaf&p=catalog&mode=search&parent=0&mid=0&search_in=all&search_str=face+cricut&pg=1" target="_blank">PeachyKeen</a>. I love their stamps. They turned boring white cups into cups with character. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And finally, while at Tuesday Morning I came across this teapot and I couldn't resist.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2ocKx5tBY9fvHTQFg-rHYCm-Q6WW4SIU1QY9Feq2K4IAWrqdDV9fnAmVtVlv8A-Uk4BIiy4g5q6-nRJViwiguSG9GPOueWvD5hoGeFrlY09Sxv-EcjKj7-FF6iIf6pcjz_fnweO75IE4n/s1600/20130720_114301.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2ocKx5tBY9fvHTQFg-rHYCm-Q6WW4SIU1QY9Feq2K4IAWrqdDV9fnAmVtVlv8A-Uk4BIiy4g5q6-nRJViwiguSG9GPOueWvD5hoGeFrlY09Sxv-EcjKj7-FF6iIf6pcjz_fnweO75IE4n/s400/20130720_114301.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
You guessed it. Alice in Wonderland Teapot and Sugar bowl. Now I don't usually buy anything over $5.00 for a party, unless I plan on using it again but I just couldn't resist. It was perfect. As luck would have it, one of the gals at the party was going to throw a tea party for her daughter and she bought it from me at the end of the night. I also gave her all my Alice in Wonderland specific decorations to use at her party. I am glad they are going to a good place to be used and appreciated. As opposed to my bonus room that has become the storage place of parties of the past. I kept the sugar bowl as a souvenir. And I sent each person home with their own mini top hat.</div>

This past weekend I through a Breakfast at Tiffany's crop. I had so much fun doing the decor for this one! Of course my first source for ideas was Pinterest. <br />

<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I had a family emergency the weekend before so I didn't have time to paint the boxes properly, so at 4 am the morning of the crop, I found some acrylic paint in my scrapbook stash and mixed a few colors to come up with Tiffany blue.. (here's to not throwing anything away even when you haven't used it in years). So here is my version.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsnB5lutu8yTENKTDku4rxveouKueh7sQUsLcG-SZlkSO7GaXskiHVeiMYGN1fRXHxoagm0clKtJCFy2xlctmUa9kC8rUMxscBN9QP6op4ArFEm2l42gdei9Zkh4D33p28EutjL9x-yfA/s1600/IMG_1164.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsnB5lutu8yTENKTDku4rxveouKueh7sQUsLcG-SZlkSO7GaXskiHVeiMYGN1fRXHxoagm0clKtJCFy2xlctmUa9kC8rUMxscBN9QP6op4ArFEm2l42gdei9Zkh4D33p28EutjL9x-yfA/s320/IMG_1164.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The box on the left is an actual box that is Tiffany blue that my husband bought me years ago to go with my scraproom. ( I have a wonderful husband who buys me things for my birthday that I will actually love and use.) The box on the right is a box I purchased at Hobby Lobby for $1.49 and painted. I stuffed the bottoms with the plastic bags from the table liners, then I put tissue paper on top. Each box had three sizes of bling, a tiara from <a href="http://www.partycity.com/product/princess+tiaras+6ct.do?sortby=ourPicks&size=all&from=Search&navSet=tiara" target="_blank">Party City</a> and either either some of my costume pearl jewelry or some pearl strand I found in the ribbon section at Hobby Lobby. Here is a close up of the inside.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyhSKycPvHJ7s6hyqNUaPv3un9cnKH5SJa_8XgjbOlb_IWK8WORfCjKeTULOMiNJwgUZeNmVETTXIHPgWgS8_ao8akAAU7b7BZMARh_CETlxSyYzFwvy3c8r0ZpKjgOuzqH5nvQclj9dA/s1600/IMG_1181.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyhSKycPvHJ7s6hyqNUaPv3un9cnKH5SJa_8XgjbOlb_IWK8WORfCjKeTULOMiNJwgUZeNmVETTXIHPgWgS8_ao8akAAU7b7BZMARh_CETlxSyYzFwvy3c8r0ZpKjgOuzqH5nvQclj9dA/s320/IMG_1181.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I also found this cute wedding gown cut on the Silhouette store. It wasn't quite what I wanted so I tweaked it just a bit. Once I had it just like I wanted, I was able to cut three per 12x12 black cardstock. I then used the same technique that I used at the baby shower, to make the dresses stand up. You can see the how to <a href="http://fortryingoutloud.blogspot.com/2012/04/stand-up-paper-doll.html" target="_blank">HERE</a>.</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I also pinned this wonderful centerpiece that I had to try. I couldn't find the directions to it and I have not done a floral arrangement before so I did my best.</div>

<br /></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="color: #76838b; font-size: 10px;">
<span style="color: black; font-size: small;">And no, I did not paint my art niche for the party. It just so happens that the color I chose as an accent color throughout my whole house is Tiffany blue (see previous posts). I took apart a Christmas ornament for the bling on the branches. I bought the flowers at, you guessed it, Hobby Lobby. And BONUS they were 50% off. I already had the vase and the branches.</span></div>
<div style="color: #76838b; font-size: 10px;">
<span style="color: black; font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: #76838b; font-size: 10px;">
<span style="color: black; font-size: small;">I also made a Tiffany Blue punch.</span></div>

<span style="color: black; font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: #76838b; font-size: 10px;">
<span style="color: black; font-size: small;">I used Blue Hawaiian Punch, a large can of pineapple juice and pineapple sherbert....oh and spike with your favorite liquor if you want. </span><br />
<span style="color: black; font-size: small;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: black; font-size: small;">Everyone was given given a Tiffany blue gift bag for their trash, a Holly Golightly mask, a tiara and a luggage tag. Cheryl, the creator of our scrapbook group found them at Michaels. They had Holly Golightly on one side and we decorated the back side with our names.</span><br />

<br />
Tax day. If you asked me yesterday in the morning what I would have journaled about, I would have said about my dread of the tax day. But by the end of the day, my focused had changed. No longer was I worried about taxes. Now I wondered about the Boston Marathon and all those people injured. Or worst... those that were killed. I have feared running...can I finish, did I train enough, am I going to be the last one in? But never, never in a million years would I have thought "Am I going to die?"</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
And I still won't. I am a fighter I am an American and we know no fear but fear of The Lord. NO other shall control me. So tomorrow I will run for Boston. I will do my best to represent...no matter how slow or how short...I will run the race that is set before me.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
No one will take that from us. Let the media speak of fear but we speak of hope and strength. I will run today with Boston on my mind.</div>

This is my first real make over of any furniture. So what did I decide to do? Well, I decided to take all my bedroom furniture and an armoire out to my garage and paint them all at once. At the time of the decision, it made sense. They all needed to be primed and most pieces were being painted the same color. And on top of it all, I decided to blog about it. I made a promise to myself a few months ago that good or bad, I was going to blog my results of things I tried. Ouch!<br />
<br />
One of my first pins on pinterest was this one from Censational Girl:<br />
<div style="line-height: 0px; padding-bottom: 2px;">
<a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/155163149631228221/" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="494" src="http://media-cache-ec3.pinterest.com/550x/d9/00/66/d9006602706356f2da54f842265361e1.jpg" width="478" /></a><br />

Source: <a href="http://www.centsationalgirl.com/2011/04/how-to-paint-furniture/" style="color: #76838b; font-size: 10px; text-decoration: underline;">centsationalgirl.com</a> via <a href="http://pinterest.com/scrapnook/" style="color: #76838b; font-size: 10px; text-decoration: underline;" target="_blank">Rozette</a> on <a href="http://pinterest.com/" style="color: #76838b; text-decoration: underline;" target="_blank">Pinterest</a></div>
</div>
<br />
I must have pinned it the first time about a year ago. I say the first time because I have pinned it several times since then. (You know that awkward moment when you just finished pinning 4 or 5 things only to discover that what you were looking at was one of your own boards, so you basically repinned yourself? yeah been there, done that)<br />
So this is the first piece that is complete. I know, I know very Martha Stewart like. I didn't even realize it until I put in the drawers. (You may have noticed that we also painted the walls...finally. After 7 years of the same builder off white, we committed to Maison Blanche from Sherwin Williams.)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQAuj_jBt_dqW6O0aTckdPKOAgsgigL8lHjaDbFs10MQHMhOI3EP02ze2kjBb3GVoqWQY3YO1Jid43kGU4heMgPBAy-YaLNPCT1lJdFI3bmoOIrn-eSEyhyphenhyphenACVKmbpw_kmUSuK2Yf5xsdj/s1600/TITLE.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQAuj_jBt_dqW6O0aTckdPKOAgsgigL8lHjaDbFs10MQHMhOI3EP02ze2kjBb3GVoqWQY3YO1Jid43kGU4heMgPBAy-YaLNPCT1lJdFI3bmoOIrn-eSEyhyphenhyphenACVKmbpw_kmUSuK2Yf5xsdj/s400/TITLE.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I followed Censational Girls advice and used her technique.<br />
<br />
I first removed the handles and filled the holes with Elmers all purpose wood filler and sanded it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbNk0XZqriqB9TIN4z-sGM4ZmwHMxvl5J9ywsNr4UU_wIoeRubcWeT3FdYqdDifM_yU3ihted3mmTVLqCZPu584AgsGPiAf_40ug3FlRmb8WkUXkLwnindCKiKpWslxCvqHunGhzmq4qNb/s1600/drawers.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbNk0XZqriqB9TIN4z-sGM4ZmwHMxvl5J9ywsNr4UU_wIoeRubcWeT3FdYqdDifM_yU3ihted3mmTVLqCZPu584AgsGPiAf_40ug3FlRmb8WkUXkLwnindCKiKpWslxCvqHunGhzmq4qNb/s400/drawers.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
(Yes, I was scared when I saw my drawers in this state). I am not sure if it is suppose to look this bad at this point, but YOLO!!!. Once I did this I primed my with Zinsser red can (yeah just look for the red can. It comes in red, gold and blue and Censational girl prefers gold then red but we only have red in the local stores<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

).<br />

Now, I do not know if they are suppose to look so smooth but there they are. (Can you see all the pieces of furniture back there? I count eight drawers in this shot alone. I primed each piece twice, sanding between coats.<br />

After priming, I painted the dresser Swimming from Sherwin Williams and I don't remember the white color but it is a pure white. I'll update this post when I find it. After painting, I used Minwax Polycrylic in Clear Gloss but my husband didn't think it was glossy enough so we sprayed it Lacquer High Gloss clear from Rustoleum. It gave it a little shine but not like we wanted it. After further review and research, ok so one day while mesmerized by Pinterest, I discovered this pin.<br />
<br />

So my next project will use this paint from Benjamin Moore. It is a water based paint that acts like an oil...who knew?<br />
<br />
Then came the scary part....I had to drill holes for the new knobs. I have a tutorial for that also. I love the knobs I found at Home Depot from Martha Stewart. They are substantial. That is to say, they are heavy and feel like quality pieces.<br />
<br />
And yes, I did discover after I put the drawers in the dresser that the knobs are not center on the vertical but only on the horizontal. I measured them 6 inches from the bottom of each drawer, per a suggestion in my research. I think they should be center...oh well.<br />

Well if you were to ask me, you would open wide and try to fit the whole thing in your mouth. You would remain lady like and not choke. Oh, you know you will choke but you try anyway. That is how my "Yippee! I am finally getting a new mattress became "Oh no, what have I done?"<br />
<br />
You see, 17 years ago, before I was a mother or a wife, I purchased a queen size mattress. Oh, how life has changed since that first night I slept on it. The things we have shared. Those late night prayer sessions when I was looking for guidance. A soft place to lie when my daughter was little and slept with me because of the monsters under her bed. The late night conversations I shared with my husband. Yes, it has served me well. But time has not been nice to queen. She has become lumpy and unreliable. She gives me pain at night and no rest. So after many years of debating on whether or not we should get a new bed, we finally take the plunge and buy a king bed. And that is the start of my horror story of how to eat an elephant.<br />
<br />
Let me set the scene and introduce you to the main characters in my story:<br />
<br />
The old mattress:<br />
<br />

Do you see where I am going with this? Do you see the elephant in the room? Over the next few weeks I will introduce you to each character individually. I will share the good, the bad and the ugly...and there is plenty of ugly.<br />
<br />
And remember, it all started with one mattress purchase.<br />

Well maybe not a lifesaver but definitely it has added flavor to my life. I saw this lollipop topiary on Pinterest and had to try it.<br />
<br />

<br />
You can see the original pin <a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/155163149633926590/" target="_blank">HERE</a>. But it didn't give any directions on how to do it, so I thought I would create one. Here is a list of items you will need:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQ0Oh9g3MgpHMQIj42hh5Qo4hvpyBiULeVsM6lOWCDymR-NFllZPD0IAEI02uspZ6o3L4XSlER3uQUFE2n6Bs_HCEBj5mx2MrN1Yf3L43FoMEzykvSq4XW8B4OlwzX75RGOGl4UpWz4aw/s1600/IMG_0342.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQ0Oh9g3MgpHMQIj42hh5Qo4hvpyBiULeVsM6lOWCDymR-NFllZPD0IAEI02uspZ6o3L4XSlER3uQUFE2n6Bs_HCEBj5mx2MrN1Yf3L43FoMEzykvSq4XW8B4OlwzX75RGOGl4UpWz4aw/s320/IMG_0342.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<ul>
<li>6 inch styrofoam ball</li>
<li>big bag of dum dums or other lollipops ( I bought mine at Sams)</li>
<li>a chunky candlestick (mine came from Goodwill and that I switched candle holders)</li>
<li>hot glue</li>
</ul>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Insert lollipops into stryrofoam ball. Leave room at the bottom to hot glue ball to candle holder. (I just kept inserting lollipops and then every once and a while I placed it on top of candle holder to see if I needed more lollipops)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwlly769q78VqBNCFLPWvd8lh1suzF6O6_dkb118AZ3RD_qU6C6x8kYTsu1n-_A8KFX6x1ticjMeXa_y29gPQ1H7O-UL6EdCps1MaxBLzRgT3xfBdnJEk4sUccmILPjxRGTk13yOREjpg/s1600/IMG_0343.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwlly769q78VqBNCFLPWvd8lh1suzF6O6_dkb118AZ3RD_qU6C6x8kYTsu1n-_A8KFX6x1ticjMeXa_y29gPQ1H7O-UL6EdCps1MaxBLzRgT3xfBdnJEk4sUccmILPjxRGTk13yOREjpg/s320/IMG_0343.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Once you have all the lollipops inserted in the ball, hot glue ball to candle holder. You may have to hold it for 30 seconds just to make sure it holds. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It is extremely easy to make and took very little time. I watched TV while I made mine. I would have spray painted my candle holder white but my daughter wants it in her room and wants it to remain black.</div>

<br />
I finally did it! I hosted my first event in my home! It only took 7 years but I finally did it! Sure I have hosted family gatherings, like Thanksgiving, and two church gatherings. But those I did when I first moved into my home. I use to say it was because I didn't know any better. My house wasn't decorated enough, painted enough, pretty enough etc. But you know what? It is never going to meet my standards and I had to come to terms with that reality...or my perception of reality. I read a blog post once about not waiting for your house to be ready for guests because it will never be ready. That the most important part of hosting people for a gathering or for the weekend is to make them feel comfortable and at home. It was a great article. If I find it again, I will update this one with the link. I read it years ago, but it planted a small seed. A seed so small that it took years for it to break through the ground and finally bear fruits. <br />
<br />
I decided to use Pinterest for ideas and I fell in love with Candy Bars. Not like a Hershey's candy bar but a bar much like an alcohol bar but filled with candy instead of spirits. But I knew I didn't want to break the bank so I had to improvise.In this video, I will show you how I took two vases from the dollar store and made my own candy jars for a Candy Bar. I originally saw a similar idea on Pinterest, using mason jars. Those can be seen at<a href="http://www.blogger.com/In%20this%20video,%20I%20will%20show%20you%20how%20I%20took%20two%20vases%20from%20the%20dollar%20store%20and%20made%20my%20own%20candy%20jars%20for%20a%20Candy%20Bar.%20%20I%20originally%20saw%20a%20similar%20idea%20on%20Pinterest,%20using%20mason%20jars.%20Those%20can%20be%20seen%20at%20http://eighteen25.blogspot.com/2011/04/pickle-jar-project.html.%20%20However,%20I%20didn't%20have%20any%20mason%20jars%20so%20I%20bought%20a%20few%20candle%20holders%20for%20the%20tops.%20%20These%20candy%20jars%20are%20so%20easy%20to%20make%20and%20inexpensive.%20%20%20%20Supplies%20needed:%20-%20candle%20stick%20holder%20(dollar%20store)%20%20-%20%20wider%20candle%20holder%20jar%20or%20bowl%20(dollar%20store)%20-%20strong%20liquid%20adhesive%20(%20I%20used%20E6000%20which%20can%20be%20found%20at%20%20most%20hobby%20stores)%20-%20candy%20(optional)%20-%20%20candy%20scoop%20(optional)%20-%20%20any%20items%20you%20want%20to%20use%20to%20decorate%20jar%20(optional)%20%20Make%20sure%20both%20the%20top%20and%20bottom%20candle%20holders%20are%20clean%20and%20dry.%20%20Put%20glue%20on%20both%20holders%20where%20they%20will%20connect.%20Since%20the%20glass%20in%20not%20porous,%20wait%202%20minutes%20and%20then%20put%20the%20two%20items%20together.%20%20Make%20sure%20the%20top%20is%20center.%20%20Allow%20to%20dry%20for%2048%20to%2072%20hours%20before%20using.%20%20%20%20If%20you%20like%20this%20video%20or%20found%20it%20helpful,%20please%20click%20the%20%20%22Like%22%20button.%20%20If%20you%20would%20like%20to%20receive%20notices%20when%20I%20have%20uploaded%20more%20videos,%20please%20click%20the%20%22subscribe%22%20button.%20%20%20You%20can%20also%20visit%20me%20at%20:%20www.seefluffy.blogspot.com"> http://eighteen25.blogspot.com/2011/04/pickle-jar-project.html. </a> However, I didn't have any mason jars so I bought a few candle holders for the tops. These candy jars are so easy to make and inexpensive. <br />
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/cF0SnkgZ1-4?rel=0" width="560"></iframe>
<br />
Supplies needed:<br />
- candle stick holder (dollar store)<br />
- wider candle holder jar or bowl (dollar store)<br />
- strong liquid adhesive ( I used E6000 which can be found at most hobby stores)<br />
- candy (optional)<br />
- candy scoop (optional)<br />
- any items you want to use to decorate jar (optional)<br />
<br />
Make sure both the top and bottom candle holders are clean and dry. Put glue on both holders where they will connect. Since the glass in not porous, wait 2 minutes and then put the two items together. Make sure the top is center. Allow to dry for 48 to 72 hours before using. <br />

Yes, it's Fluffy and I am about to get my run on again. Now, I was expecting to get a new sport bra or anything new for that matter but my sister works at a running store and invited me to a bra fitting. (was that a run on sentence? If it was, well then I'll just say I am warming up for my run tomorrow. )<br />
<br />
I have heard of runners being picky about how and where they carry their phone or their water when they run. Put it in the wrong place and you feel out of balance. Put them in the right place and well it is like not carrying it at all. Well imagine carrying two large balloons on your chest that you can't decide to leave at home, or hold in one hand or the other or wear around your waist? Ok, Ok, maybe sometimes they can hang down to your waist naturally but that is a different topic for a different day. Where was I? Oh, yes....things that make you feel out of balance and no choice of where to put them. <br />
<br />
Well that is the struggle us fluffy, big chested gals have to endure. We are limited in our choices of where to put them. It is amazing the amount of clothing we are willing to wear to keep them in their place. One "sports bra", one regular bra and another sports bra on top. (true story) Some come to accept the limited support that this layering effect gives or they just succumb to the lie that they are too big to run. Trust me, most women are not too well endowed to run, they just aren't dressed for the occasion. Buying a bra for running is not a fashion first kind of thing. First comes the support...function before beauty. It's not going to feel like slipping into a cozy pair of jammies and fluffy bunny slippers. No, this thing has to be strong, firm and unforgiving. It needs to be able to take all the jarring you can give it and still at the end of its day, hold its shape and be ready for another round tomorrow. It cannot grow tired too soon and give in. No it must endure.<br />
<br />
This is why I love Moving Comfort. They know women. They know women of all sizes with all size breast. But the best part, they don't just create great bras, they go out of their way to help women find the right bra for them...on an individual basis.<br />
<br />

Today I went to a womens only even at<a href="http://www.fittrirun.com/index.html" target="_blank"> Tri Fit Run</a> in Galveston, Texas. Deb, from Moving Comfort, spent the day there fitting each woman for a bra and making suggestions on the best bra for each person. She had all styles and all sizes on hand for everyone to try on. But you didn't just try on a bra. She evaluated the fit on you and adjusted the straps so that it fit you properly. It reminded me of new parents that take their car seat to a local fire station and the firemen help them place the car seat properly into the car so that it is safe for the newborn when they come home in their first car ride from the hospital. Well, Deb makes sure that when you take your first run, your boobs will be comfortable but more importantly, safe.<br />
<br />
But wait there's more!!!!! I was so excited because not only does Moving Comfort make great supporting bras, they make them in beautiful colors. So you get fashion and support. I got the Juno bra. And I was so excited that it came in more than black and white, that I bought the Aqua one also. It's hard to find a company that believes that fluffy gals like to look just as fashionable as their non fluffy friends. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMpHteeDL0XF1AMWqnHewbns4xay5HBI_6JTb1aRkz3r-DkUxdNPKq2SPCfK1k4YsJ5x3lM8z3Gui5d19AWBXT2qqQR_DqZ2CKBvSDzMpVchFWPY2yKyP4-01bgHRkmPTLpOk48FDY6P67/s1600/Juno+bra.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" gsa="true" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMpHteeDL0XF1AMWqnHewbns4xay5HBI_6JTb1aRkz3r-DkUxdNPKq2SPCfK1k4YsJ5x3lM8z3Gui5d19AWBXT2qqQR_DqZ2CKBvSDzMpVchFWPY2yKyP4-01bgHRkmPTLpOk48FDY6P67/s320/Juno+bra.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
And thank you Deb for making the adjustments so that it fit perfectly. We both left happy campers...I mean runners.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifCnmIVLjSQymx1p4agXWIUKOLHJrySPLjCh18o0LCFTE1WYi1Dvf7oyQGIEyXYLxZCSX69kxlrAXDsjPCFWnmBnl7idINnZgJraJDJ1CfkVkCS5Dzx47dFHHbeBRyJ0kycxq0k2yvzEpF/s1600/IMG_0377.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" gsa="true" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifCnmIVLjSQymx1p4agXWIUKOLHJrySPLjCh18o0LCFTE1WYi1Dvf7oyQGIEyXYLxZCSX69kxlrAXDsjPCFWnmBnl7idINnZgJraJDJ1CfkVkCS5Dzx47dFHHbeBRyJ0kycxq0k2yvzEpF/s320/IMG_0377.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
So next time you need a new sports bra or if you never had one, go to your local running store and found out when their next all girl bra fitting gala will be and make sure you go. If they aren't having one...find another running store or ask them to host one. And remember, your bra should never have a birthday.<br />
<br />

It's how to cook bacon. I know, I know you're saying how can cooking bacon be a life changer? Introducing my bacon loving hubby.<div><br></div><div><img id="imgfa5f82f3-c825-43af-9b72-a8f4709b1169" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-HhIJbTcgnCWOMnLyJhShDCXtgYiCs74AeyaXf-cACe6qnhdXfiE6Bz-1gdQ_JcpCxfcD4FKXNOS1SRAebV4ybyjQmgb5rEVPnR8jwveHInB7FX5rvhZQbggk39C7gSyTgIx6ag2h858/" style="height:375px;width:500px"></div><div><br></div><div>This man loves his bacon. He is Canadian, but no it's not Canadian Bacon...but he loves that also. So each Saturday I make pancakes and bacon. And at least once a week he makes himself a bacon and tomato sandwich. Prior to this new method of cooking bacon, I use to bring out this big skillet, put on a fireman's uniform, to prevent from burning from grease splatter, and cook the bacon. Ok, so maybe I am exaggerating a little bit. There wasn't any fireman's uniform, though it should be required, but there was a lot of ducking and dodging grease balls flying through the air. And when all was said and done, I had this skillet full of bacon grease that I had to let cool down some and poor into my grease container for disposal. What a nightmare!</div><div><br></div><div>But in walks the Food Network and they share this tip on cooking bacon. If you place a piece of parchment paper on a cookie sheet, and then place the bacon flat on the parchment paper, you can cook your bacon in the over. And yes, it does taste like regular bacon. The trick is to place the bacon inside a COLD oven and then set the heat for 400 degrees. I usually cook mine for 14 minutes. The bacon cooks while the oven is heating up. Then when you are done, just roll up the parchment paper and throw it in the trash. It's like it never happened.</div><div><br></div><div>Here is what you need:</div><div><br></div><div><img id="img9d353515-8c88-4ff3-974e-899b5f9e2819" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkXvgIs9zDcSbY4y6po4uiOCS5tBba0cj8N-tB-HUszZnlo7_sgRy_XvHE_QnUGqc8pnbcO2ZncTMYaP7tNcg6fG4wJQmLP5oK_gdqNpD3yhYQR-16nCLFWXqhyphenhyphenkwDgTV74T2zdSd-HTU/" style="height:334px;width:500px"></div><div><br></div><div>This is what you do:</div><div><br></div><div><img id="img87c961d5-d5f7-4dde-bda6-ce792ad8fcf3" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEji-2NEUraSx4h8tZYzheFxMr2ZFA222XANyn7cl39Qpr7EsrQnQN_zNUg4sN0ms8ecH6BpXELYpjBAGeXUXTGRiicXWXPpIHpOcGFLZK8b99BgyWZoEAQKF_x-0sMSPbgG6RaZQs8wb9w/" style="height:334px;width:500px"></div><div><br></div><div>It is so simple.</div><img id="imgc9471dd1-cec3-4744-929e-1a6d01f3a158" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzIBUk4q5xYUFEEtIXgDKwuvcAqS7R8KI_K6w3b8Awaiw_IqfcazYobVIyYqSjPGoXcdcdeOxENqKSVRAxjbNAxU5SEL9RVMTpcaX5isfaWmL3tkJlZJ-JQcjOeBt-mQ1SzCOzze0Xr5o/" style="height:198.73229712247849px;width:335.7047111392021px;background-color:transparent;box-shadow:none;opacity:1;left:227px;top:159px" class="" rotate="-188.4805145263672" scale="0.6" mvc="false"><br></div>Rozettehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02901595993144780703noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4286734488391434346.post-22826003615064406762013-01-19T18:11:00.001-06:002013-01-19T18:11:36.215-06:00Charge me up before you go go<div id="dE_H" style=";width:100%; height:100%; ;"> Being a gadget girl has it's disadvantages. Sure I can multitask in a single leap, make my way around the US like Lewis and Clark and keep up with family and friends with a touch of a button. But without power, I am left in the dark, lost and no way to get a hold of anyone. So power is of the utmost priority for me. I am always in search of it and in my house, I am not the only one.<div><div><br></div><div>A common conversation in our house sounds like this:</div><div><br></div><div>Me: "Anyone seen my iPhone chord?"</div><div>Daughter: "Oh yeah, I took it because I left mine at _____ 's house."</div><div>Me: "Well, let me have it back, please."</div><div>Daughter: "But I haven't picked mine up yet"</div><div>Me: "Too bad...let me have it."</div><div><br></div><div>So we spend the next few days passing the cord back and forth. Until....she takes it to her friends house and forgets that one also. (sigh)</div><div><br></div><div>Then there is the second scenario.</div><div>Daughter: "Can _____ borrow your cord? She is spending the night but needs to get up for work in the morning?" (note...we have alarm clocks in the house but no one uses them).</div><div>Me: "What about me?"</div><div>Daughter: "Mom, she isn't going to take it and she is our guest." (sigh for me teaching her good manners)</div><div><br></div><div>Well this past holiday season, I decided enough was enough and I found these 4 way chargers from Brookstone. I loved them so much that I bought one for each member of my family and my daughter's closest friends. And as each one opened their gift, I told them to just keep this in your car/purse and you will never be powerless again. I recently used it on a trip to Fort Worth. You can charge pretty much any gadget with it and charge them in a variety of ways. Which is great, since I have to charge my Iphone, my headset and my bluetooth keyboard.</div><div><br></div><div><img id="img6f3e91d5-8d56-42b9-b866-59da053e7d34" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-NHlKBZdkpkQ/UPs2MoMqhyI/AAAAAAAAGt0/iBrUQS1Aipc/%25255BUNSET%25255D.jpg" style="height:375px;width:500px;opacity:1;left:310px;top:247px" class="" mvc="false"></div><div><br></div><div>The hotel conveniently had power outlets in the base of the lamps (no getting down on hands and knees and reaching behind the bed for a powersource...thank you Comfort Inn). I just plugged the power into the base, connected the correct attachment and tada...I am charging. </div><div><br></div><div>But I don't have to plug into an outlet, on the left you can see the car charger and to the right is the USB so that you can power via computer or other USB power source. But that is not all. Up to this point, it is pretty ho hum, right? I mean sure, one gadget to charge several types of gadgets via several power sources, what is the big deal?</div><div><br></div><div>The big deal is the 9 volt batter you see in the picture. You see, if you are not near any power source, can you say airport, beach or sight seeing on vacation, all you need is a 9 volt battery. 9 volt batteries can be found anywhere. And if you have one, you have power for your gadgets? Don't believe me? Well just look.</div><div><br></div><div><img id="img28cf6496-f720-4d96-80b3-b092be7f3509" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMClkSPRpPgUpx_fbLzjp3_oSfF_UUNL-f8E6EtMSh4gTwGP7Nf_15IqwcLMFI0ffRmqDl5rso2Rl52N2z_b24vKmJQLh1yfOnMOsbfGC5v3tFbREmC2xsLhtdRYzVu9SVoZDugFDh2rO2/" style="height:375px;width:500px;opacity:1;left:310px;top:247px" mvc="false" class=""></div><div><br></div><div>This is my iPhone being charged by a 9 volt battery. A 9 volt battery will fully charge your IPhone. Ok, close you mouth. All of a sudden you know you need this thing. I bought mine on QVC. But you can buy it directly from <a href="http://t.brookstone.com/4-in-1-power-charger-ipod-iphone-accessory?bkiid=SubCategory_Electronics_Accessories_for_Apple_Apple_Power_Chargers%7CSubCategoryWidget%7C646596p&catId=L3_ApplePower%7CL2_AppleAccess%7CL1_Electronics">Brookstone</a>. </div><div><br></div><div>So if you are a gadget girl (boy) and worried about being unplugged, you might like this gadget. It does not charge my iPad. (booooo). But I am ok with that.</div><div><br></div><div>So here is a question for you. If you should lose your phone or it should lose charge, can you call someone? Do you have any phone numbers memorized? Are there any phone numbers you should have memorized that you don't?</div></div></div>Rozettehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02901595993144780703noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4286734488391434346.post-74857187051259502592013-01-10T15:04:00.002-06:002013-01-10T15:04:27.054-06:00Paparrazi! Paparrazi!Ok, call me addicted, but right now the flavor of the month, is researching anything photo/video. Maybe it is my ADHD but I can focus, no pun intended, on a topic for days and consume as much information on the topic as possible. <br />
<br />
Last night I was listening to <a href="http://www.paperclipping.com/" target="_blank">Paperclipping Roundtable</a> and Izzy mentioned photojournalism and Rangefinder cameras. I had no idea these creatures even existed. So what did I do? I googled it and read more about it. According to <a href="http://digital-photography-school.com/rangefinder-cameras-an-introduction" target="_blank">Digital Photography School</a> a rangefinder camera is great for photojournalism because they allow you to be more stealth when taking a pictures in public or at an event.<br />
<br />
Confused? So was I! So if you don't feel like you need all the little details of the rangefinder, here are some basic facts.<br />
<ol>
<li>You use prime lenses only (so you don't zoom etc)</li>
<li>The view finder is not centered above the lens so what you see is not exactly what you capture. (So don't use it for any closeups)</li>
<li>It has a mechanism on it that allows the user to measure distance between subject and camera. </li>
<li>But for me the best feature is that I can seem inconspicous at family events when I want to take candid pictures.</li>
<li>Ok, Ok....and I love the retro look.</li>
</ol>
However they are crazy crazy expensive so they don't even make the "want" list. They make my " in your dreams if you ever win lotto" list. <br />
<br />
However, on my journey to find an image for the GIF (iPhone tripod mount...not going into details about it...my excitement is what I have to say next.....<br />
<br />
I found this iPhone Rangefinder! It is an Iphone case that turns your Iphone (sorta) into a rangefinder phone. You view through off center viewfinder, you can use lenses (you can buy case with lenses or without). It has a place for straps so you can wear it around your neck. The bottom has universal tripod mount thingy (ok...so I am still learning my terms). And it is just darn stinkin cute! <br />

Choose different covers!<br />

<br />
<strong><a href="http://photojojo.com/store/awesomeness/iphone-rangefinder/embed">The iPhone Rangefinder</a></strong> at the <a href="http://photojojo.com/store/embed">Photojojo Store!</a>
<br />
<br />
Some of the other features are a Tripod mount on the bottom, magnetic lenses that attach to your lens, viewfinder and real shutter button.<br />
<br />
Oh there is also an app at the app store called View Finder Classic that will calculate distance from subject. It is 99 cents? WHAT not free? No, not free but close to it.<br />
<br />
Now this will go on my want list! FYI....I have not been contacted by them or anything. I just found this product and I wanted to share it. If you have this, please leave a comment and let us know what you think of it? <br />

You see, my husband works for UPS, so Christmas is the busiest time of the year for him. He plays Brown Santa from the Monday after Thanksgiving until 11pm Christmas Eve. At 11 he hands the reigns over to Red Santa so that Santa can fill this world with magic.<div><br></div><div>So I end up going to all the Holiday events alone. :( One night, while at a friend's house, she served these delicious cupcakes. I had to share them with my hubby. Which means they had to survive the journey home. Now, I hate squashed food and my hubby is no different. We looked around her kitchen for something to pack the cupcakes in to keep them safe. Cellophane over small paper plate...no. One paper plate over another paper plate....no. Cute cupcake holder...no (let' s face it, I am the worst at returning kitchen ware. (The secret is out....letting me borrow something from your kitchen is practically giving it away to me.) </div><div><br></div><div>And then it donned on me...Solo cups. Did you know that many normal sized cupcakes fit neatly in them? They do! And...And...get this...those cups fit in your cupholders in your car. CAN YOU BELIEVE IT! So it serves several purposes. 1. You can only take home as many cup holders you have in your car. (Great if you have no restraint against the yumminess of cupcakes) 2. Frosting doesn't get squashed. 3. Your hubby gets a nice surprise after spending 14 hours being Brown Santa</div><div><br></div><div><img id="img4ff75e94-f298-4a25-94b6-4399c3c08b36" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-4-Ms0l8XT98/UOuKIdcBPkI/AAAAAAAAF9s/1vUZNN0D-Z4/%25255BUNSET%25255D.jpg" style="height:374px;width:500px;opacity:1;left:310px;top:247px" class="" mvc="false"></div><br><div></div><div><br></div><div>Whoda thunk it?</div><div><br></div><img id="img7a09ff2e-d3bd-4edd-9cf3-682e2dce64f6" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-LSR4AOkCUf4/UOuKJNpZPjI/AAAAAAAAF90/WwrCrrj3Cf4/%25255BUNSET%25255D.png" style="height:227.3509682416916px;width:366.3251506090164px;background-color:transparent;box-shadow:none;opacity:1;left:331px;top:228px" mvc="false" class="" rotate="4.132469177246094" scale="0.7"><br></div>Rozettehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02901595993144780703noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4286734488391434346.post-34819673764493138062013-01-04T09:51:00.001-06:002013-01-04T10:01:52.407-06:00Where has the year gone?<div id="dE_H" style="height: 59.34%; width: 100%;">
Can you believe we are already at the first weekend of 2013? Where did the first few days of 2013 go? No, seriously, where did it go? It feels like just yesterday I was thinking, "Man, what am I going to do with 4 1/2 days off of work?" I started to make a list of projects that I was going to complete, the first one being....take the tree down. Well it's already the 4th, the holiday is over and the tree is still up and no projects we completed.<br />
<br />
<div>
To make myself feel better, I am going to say I believe the decor should stay up until Three Kings Day (which is the 6th). Whew! Well that gives me until Sunday evening to take down the tree. Besides, my house seems so bare when I take down the decor. Let's face it, I feel confident in temporary decorating that lasts six weeks but when it comes to making decor decisions that should last for years....I'm paralyzed. So that is part of my resolution....no paralysis by analysis. <br />
</div>
Meanwhile, while I work on that, here a video on embossing. I love embossing on pages and cards. It allows you to add texture to a page or card, without adding bulk. I hope you enjoy. Comments are always welcome and subscribe to my channel by clicking the subscribe button.

It has really affected my decor, especially at Christmas time.<div><br></div><div>This is my mantle in its entirety.</div><div><br><div><img id="imgece86395-770c-42be-8b17-9b5d45fe6b88" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Jn4FAcX2a1k/UNIi6K8_zLI/AAAAAAAAEsU/QlS0F2T4ZWI/%25255BUNSET%25255D.jpg" style="height: 673px; width: 500px; "></div><div><br></div><div>If you follow my Christmas board on Pinterest, some of these things may look familiar.</div><div><br></div><div><img id="img0f931aa9-0608-472a-874c-b58911405f7c" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-bJaCLbLYy-w/UNIi6-4Z8wI/AAAAAAAAEsc/xKvoQdVc3As/%25255BUNSET%25255D.jpg" style="height: 334px; width: 500px; "></div><div><br></div><div>I have played with this idea for some time but seeing someone do it on Pinterest just confirms it can be a good look. We don't drink in our house, so these wine glasses stay hidden in a cupboard. When I pulled them out of cupboard, I was astonished how dusty they were. It didn't take long to restore them to their natural beauty. </div><div><br></div><div><img id="imgaecf12ca-ea41-477d-9e9b-80d63bada345" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-dDT18Ikqwtk/UNIi78RQw2I/AAAAAAAAEsk/kF63X9NT-_I/%25255BUNSET%25255D.jpg" style="height: 508px; width: 500px; "></div><div><br></div><div>Here is the link to the <a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/155163149633160434/">original. </a></div><div><br></div>Then I also liked the idea of hanging ornaments from a rod and hanging the rod from stocking holders. Since we are doing "Grinch Christmas" theme and Whoville sits inside a snowflake, I bought these beautiful holders at Hobby Lobby.</div><div><br></div><div><br><img id="img6483e7ba-03ab-4ea6-a3db-2d29ef2ef02a" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-co5PJ9n_pgA/UNIi81tPxVI/AAAAAAAAEss/02C5gZ8cBgw/%25255BUNSET%25255D.jpg" style="height: 342px; width: 500px; "></div><div><br></div><div>Now my rod is not purdy but I will buy a nicer one when I see it on sale. I have until next Christmas. Here is the original pin.</div><div><br></div><div><br><img id="img12a868ec-49cc-4c3d-a4a3-50d8e280a02d" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtzuQYrJ5NlBgo1lm9B1PkRe09Y-4vT1GED_LtpHtrI1m7dGj2n6Bi6D56Onr3uOsYV5s63m-Y2Dx5bVSqwGQkuF6ETUyLlwzp5QSuMBB4orCH5tFYqnAgxT-DjWb-CLTonhjAa4va_fAu/" style="height: 553px; width: 445px; opacity: 1; " class=""></div><div><br></div><div>I love the bling on the rod. But I am determined to do this on a tight budget so a nice one will have to wait. Here is the <a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/155163149633419205/">original one. </a></div><div><br></div><div>But I am most proud of the wreath. I saw this on Pinterest and fell in love. Sadly, the original post does not have instructions so I had to wing it. I have taken pictures to write a tutorial but I haven't had the time to do it. </div><div><img id="img3bc5a68f-c854-4674-aa30-e3c15f092892" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-A-z_PMN59Ac/UNIi-uoblkI/AAAAAAAAEs8/FgAddCMAAEQ/%25255BUNSET%25255D.png" style="height: 374px; width: 500px; opacity: 1; display: inline; background-color: transparent; border-style: none; box-shadow: none; " class=""></div><div><br></div><div><img id="img9b0266ea-dbcc-439f-b693-270cd3ef0907" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOpzuuv_Cj6uVyOQmPGNbf6yDFaoGMPwOi1gEk7_LerGHWcg4UPDTpJpI2MQrUuMe0Hr09MffZGCs5F3AiKAbAkyY5Jeh0hL2K9zlYAoTCJbPyJAb_RkYs7mkDHtiG3pXj1IJpRoBwxl16/" style="height: 334px; width: 500px; "></div><div><br></div><div>I used:</div><div>8 inch wide tulle</div><div>Embroidery circle thingy</div><div>2 boxes of dollar store ornaments, about half of each...so a dollar worths of ornaments.</div><div>time...since I was starting from scratch...time</div><div><br></div><div>Here is the original pin</div><div><a id="lnkimgdcbe6d1a-1f2f-4019-8a10-938c392c1c73" target="_blank" href="http://pinterest.com/pin/155163149633439738/"></a><a id="lnkimgdcbe6d1a-1f2f-4019-8a10-938c392c1c73" target="_self" href="http://pinterest.com/pin/155163149633439738/"><img id="imgdcbe6d1a-1f2f-4019-8a10-938c392c1c73" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Zn0wzw1IIY0/UNIjAfXSlyI/AAAAAAAAEtM/b0NRZA3WRKg/%25255BUNSET%25255D.jpg" style="height: 415px; width: 310px; opacity: 1; " class=""></a></div><div><br></div><div>I then moved into my dining room and started to decorate the table. Let me just say that my dining room is a work in progress. Well lets face it, my whole house is a work in progress. But oringally I wanted a Tuscan look but now I am looking for a more tradtional look. I am saying all this because it is this funky mustard yellow and I wish it was more of a blue/green like Hazel by Sherwin Williams. Now that I have explained the horrid color, here is the light fixture.</div><div><br></div><div><img id="img88f49ad2-9f90-42ff-8990-e2aff43f4821" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-PhmnclGwDl0qorHfZdYoHQaHIiZepobmJrTrpIcKhKiPULjoWQdP09XpMUnVh7E2Rvo6ZnAl5XW3By9WIo-xiNuYuvv53UzRuIvZ-Zh4BkxEFp1KXNt172geFZpz8hGvQluwxRmuWAv4/" style="height: 334px; width: 500px; "></div><div><br></div><div>Here is the original pin.</div><div><br></div><div><img id="img705038de-c287-4aeb-9f78-1a82cdc50f35" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYRwkL4L3PLAIjCLgMJ60Vth69XqTjPeoZY22T3OKykmoxgRUq1802gNDRzcfnCL_FUpHvYhvy56Q5agyJf68sEnuQJbvl8RANGAK7eE_4evIlwlE39rnuJEUL_n2YU4j6fPW7ptSRb0wm/" style="height: 499px; width: 357px; opacity: 1; "></div><div><br></div><div>So much nicer than mine but I didn't quite understand the tutorial. I even had my husband look at it and he didn't either. So I winged it. I don't like it just yet but I needed to move on. Once I get it right, I'll try to explain. I actually have more balls but it just looked wonky. Here is the <a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/155163149632985436/">original</a> pin.</div><div><br></div><div>The next is not Pinterest related. I bought all this hot pin deco mesh at Hobby Lobby. Confession, it was the only color left so I bought it. I also bought some thinner green and patterned ribbon to tone it down. With so much ribbon, I decided to wrap some columns. The trees I bought last year at a Michaels after Christmas sale. I think I paid a little more than a dollar for each and used dollar store decor.</div><div><br></div><div><img id="imgc6acbff9-5eff-47e6-917b-d6da471561eb" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJrFXkjtP6IcJx5YPQbMvpGVdoitKdMC7FDp7GBU0vYryDiRIWepmTG19Bmy2hFKVDZteM9KQKcf7xb6gjk1juSrSf6clLzJ_Cf5y1eqbe-D6iZV3yB5fhUS2_VzFrFA-KEQIDEskb9ORc/" style="height: 500px; width: 500px; "></div><div><br></div><div>And for the first year, I bought a flocked tree. I love FLOCKED!!!! There is a funny story behind getting it home but that is a separate post...let me show a picture of what happened</div><div><img id="img0eb9e206-e068-4f54-a0a4-5b36b5c89b86" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZvfRv6887eIkArbZCHgIVgC4YugmrbkHfNnyodKQFaQk-18ISmPha6cCoUcJx-J_r1CRgYypRteZEEgmT0QijU8-_eIBJmgowlG2194TEe3JMPKfQHd7gADfMJWGqpPfiHh4T8A5V_XeO/" style="height: 374px; width: 500px; "></div><div><br></div><div>We were on the top of the Kemah Bridge when this happened. Nuf said.</div><div><br></div><div>But when we got it inside and decorated, we decided it was well worth it.</div><div><img id="img95faaa99-e873-44a0-a026-481145a0fd41" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-sfM4SeL8igg/UNIjGDplJxI/AAAAAAAAEt0/G-pOp9zwkjo/%25255BUNSET%25255D.jpg" style="height: 750px; width: 500px; "></div><div><br></div><div>Again our budget has been used for this Christmas so I used some fluffy stuff I bought last year and it covers the bag and I am going to interpret it as snow. Yeah that is it. It is a part of my Whoville theme. </div><div><br></div><div><img id="img171a0f8d-b05e-4481-9452-679b1be148ef" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-UpuLTVBFoGvZZezYgBsdChN0HRiiUk8vpEOCyiAa-DGQOT54t_gHYJSLOpd8jyDBtONU2g2Z_9WuFK1da7g6fIHmUO96OpR82fQkHh7z4515dVvKqo_SErlsQyOAArY5S0qj7XQMF9N-/" style="height: 333px; width: 500px; "></div><div><br></div><div>From inside the tree, it is suppose to have the feeling of Whoville. The flocked limbs are a part of a snow flake. I can almost see the Grinch, CindyLou and heck, I can even imagine Horton holding it. Hee Hee</div><div><br></div><div>Somewhere I have a picture of my wreath but alas it is lost in folderville...somewhere. I'll find it and load it when I can. OH and all the small trees have battery powered lights. I bought the lights on clearance at Office Depot. They are poster lights, intended to be used on Science Fair posters. After science fair, they go on clearance for .84 each. They normally sell for 7 dollars. Pretty good, eh?</div><div><br></div><div>Now off to look for more projects on Pinterest. A Pinteresting we go, A Pinteresting we go. Hi Ho the daireo, the Pinteresting I'll go!</div><div><img id="img7d1f45d6-d7c0-44e8-be77-90f598cd56b3" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-LannJVBuUwY/UNIjJB4s9WI/AAAAAAAAEuE/UVbHKzGaA1g/%25255BUNSET%25255D.png" style="height: 368px; width: 434px; background-color: transparent; border-style: none; box-shadow: none; "></div><div><br></div><br><br><br><br><br><br><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div><br><div><br><div><br></div><div><br></div><br><div> </div><div><br><div><br></div></div></div></div>Rozettehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02901595993144780703noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4286734488391434346.post-86939619813838375092012-12-18T17:46:00.002-06:002012-12-18T17:46:15.303-06:00What a difference a day makes<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
A view of my daughter's school from my SUV as I pull out of my parking space. Please excuse the poor quality of the picture but I had no intention of taking a picture until I was pulling out of the parking space and turned to my left. When I turned to my left, I saw a different place.
The building in front of me no longer just means education, friendship, team building, growth, safety and hope. No, it also means other things also. Fear and innocence lost are some of the first things that come to my mind when I think about what happened last Friday.<br />
<br />
To me, this view of the school speaks volumes. The flags are at half mast because of the tragedy in Sandy Hook. There is a Sheriff's car parked in a designated parking slot for the Sheriff. There are two of them assigned each day at the school. Their role: to maintain peace on the school grounds. That use to only mean breaking up fights between students, following up on theft within the school and drug use. But something new has been added to their job description: to keep the children safe from any evil entering the school with guns and killing without care.
<br />
<br />
It has happened before... Columbine comes to mind. But this time they had gone too far. They had taken the lives of our littlest ones. They did it with malice and we still don't know why. And this time, it changed the world.
<br />
<br />
My daughter went to school yesterday with apprehension. My junior went to school with fear in the back of her mind that she may be shot or see one of her friends shot. Let me repeat that... My junior went to school with fear in the back of her mind that she may be shot or see one of her friends shot.
And on that Monday as they sat in History class, they heard yelling in a nearby classroom. They listened intently for laughter or some sign that it was just kids rough housing while their teacher goes down the hallway. When they couldn't make that distinction, her teacher, in a very serious tone, told them to return to their seats and wait for further instruction and then he left the room. He was back in just a few moments and unlike any other time that he leaves the room, he came back to a quiet classroom of 16 and 17 year olds who looked at him for direction. He shook his head and said, "It is too soon, we can't take this so soon."<br />
<br />
The yelling was just a group of kids in another classroom and they were goofing off. But as my daughter's classroom heard her teacher say that everything was fine, one girl said, "No joke but I was scared." And that gave everyone else in the class permission to admit to their own fear and uneasiness.
My daughter and her classmates are only 16 and 17. <br />
<br />
You pray your children will never fear for their lives. You expect broken hearts from teenage love, arguments between friends or a clash with a teacher. But you don't expect your child to sit in a classroom and worry about whether or not they will come home. You and your kids didn't sign up for this and yet here we are.
And we are not alone. I spoke to my sister-n-law, in Canada, on the phone today. She said her young stepdaughter was nervous about going to school on Monday. When that young man went in to that school and did what he did. He didn't just take the lives of those 26 and the innocence of those children at Sandy Hook. No, he took the innocence and the sense of safety of children throughout the world as they went to school on Monday.<br />

Today's Goal: Get downtown to the Heritage Society's Candlelight Tour. The Heritage Society maintains the upkeep of several homes from the 1800's that are housed in the middle of downtown Houston. Each Christmas they decorate them, bring in carolers and re-enact several day today scenes in each home. It was very beautiful and the weather was amazing. I am just going to let the pictures speak for themselves.<br />

Remember the tag line on my blog? Well I am willing to try anything. I am discovering that teenagers like to do their own thing on Friday nights and well, I had Bible Study Christmas party to attend.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<img id="img5a131701-15df-4ff4-8b29-4f82d4cdf2d7" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-4uSwr1ICBP4/UMkWeSRaB6I/AAAAAAAAEcU/rUcC5BiCzn8/%25255BUNSET%25255D.jpg" style="height: 501px; width: 500px;" /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We had sooo much fun! Of course, no Christian function would be complete without some good food. Well, no function in the South would be complete without food. So we ate and then played games. You've never seen someone's true self until you see them play Cranium. How old are they? You will find out based on the Humdingers they either know how to hum or how to guess. Were they good spellers in school? Just have them do a few sgnilleps and you'll know. Are they a drama queen? One copycat and you will know. I recommend everyone to play Cranium with some of their closest friends, just not their most competitive friends..it could get ugly. Sadly, I am a competitive gamer and I get ugly. :(</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So since I don't have a true 7 Day of Christmas...here is another to do from my Christmas on a budget.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<img class="" id="img8d09b61e-22f9-48b0-a7f5-5d527be9a7de" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzOfLGLOepCbmJwXo_0l5Gw-mt7AldrEalTz7vqOiJapGlfBwP2AOEFN8TqdhwVqtqs0-L_u7wJLUcjksmptGeDGDYfzSL5b3fDyWFR8c2Tyb0kfLsgPpj2ccVDDSXyagk7mvuRKeo5Tpm/" style="height: 500px; width: 500px;" /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Remember this is to be Cindy Lou Who themed...so what is the Nutcracker doing there? Well he is part of tradition so he stays no matter what. Each year, we go to the Nutcracker with my father. This Nut is from the first time. The rat king's autograph is on the bottom of his left foot. I won't bother you with the details of why we couldn't get near a Nutcracker. Little girls dressed in their beautiful gowns, hair tied back perfectly with a bow can act more like Halo 4 soldiers when it comes to trying to get an autograph. So we went for the Rat King.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The balls are from a huge Christmas decor package from Sam's. The jar usually has dried rose petals from all the bouquets my husband as given me over the years. But at Christmas time, they are put in a Walmart bag and it is filled with holiday goodies. The wine glasses are part of the decor from my wedding (also done on a budget...but not as nice...Pinterest didn't exist back then.) So so easy to do. Just find some small balls, put them inside the glass and turn upside down. Top with more balls. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
You will notice that most of my ideas for decor are not original. I eat and breathe Pinterest. You will find most of my ideas for Christmas right <a href="http://pinterest.com/scrapnook/christmas/">HERE. </a></div>
<br />
More to come.<br />
<div>

I don't know if it was my lack of cooking skills that scared the children away from baking cookies tonight or if it was the homework. In either case, all the kids, including my daughter, did not want to participate in baking cookies. Bummer, because they really are the best cookies. I made them last year and my family talked about them for days. <br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So I thought I would share one of my Christmas projects. We are changing our Christmas theme this year We usually do the traditional colors. My daughter has asked for a Cindy Lou Who Christmas for years. So this year we were taking the plunge on a budget.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
My first project was the mantle. I wanted to take a quote from The Grinch and have it across the mantle in Grinch green. So I bought some paint...kidding. Years ago, while window shopping at Home Depot (it must have been date night), I saw these vinyl wall pops on clearance. They were on clearance for $2.00 each. So I bought some in each color. I knew they would come in handy some day...even if that day was 700 days later.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<img class="" id="img652ed829-4b92-424d-87be-b4a9ce5a811f" mvc="false" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQNNOCAa_Eyk9IC8wOeYJqRz7Vo8k3v5caB-AHd5CM01XEscM_u1M6JqoKRCmnQyfG9HNZuRGK9MNeSLp_EBNQs6FhVfxtMRJxY8z6dGj0LK8ivZpgocp_NIg4uTKURu4enlCp2J1JHbg/" style="display: inline; height: 334px; left: 310px; opacity: 1; top: 227px; width: 500px;" /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This isn't all of it but you get the idea. It came in squares and rolls. I wish I could say I pulled out my Silhouette, found a Grinch font and cut it on my Silhouette. But I don't have one. So I pulled out Cricut Expression and my Gypsy and started to design. I decided one of the fonts on Lyrical Letters would look the closest to a Grinch style font. If you have never cut vinyl on a Cricut, I find it is best to change the pressure to 3 and let the Gypsy choose the speed. This will cut the vinyl but not the backing. Once you cut the letters, pull off the extra vinyl on your mat, so that all that is left are your letters and/or words. They place your transfer paper over the words.</div>
<div>
<img class="" id="img317e8207-7f13-4bc0-84ac-552180c2c168" mvc="false" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXQ339O15PLRN4vWZPM__TYGTRzBOuqaPhyphenhyphenXq7ajT7IId3TsWiN21fCqcE3LC2Sp4ZxOiRvWsTeOjb3DLbkW6Pw-jsTDuxs5mSoXj4YeNNH44Sk_kNYiZh8W7pJab9GGzRVTeVPZj_v_0/" style="height: 374px; left: 310px; opacity: 1; top: 247px; width: 500px;" /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Trust me, it is worth getting transfer paper to transfer items from the mat to the mantle. I gently rub the paper over my words. Because my quote was longer than my mat, I cut the transfer paper into word size strips. Then when I got to the mantle I gently pressed the paper against the mantle until I had all the pieces lined up. Once they were lined up I pressed the letters onto the mantle.</div>
<div>
<img id="imgff2141a8-e269-4093-805d-1209c878d233" mvc="false" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiW_RgbE0c2Vv7j1CuIcG-A8jvPHVBvLSyoAbAOk95xAUrG4hRfAMrb8qvumNu7zHkkuTsheoXv-TCtS6Dxk3kvenUAa1gspdZ_i0jut8gKnnUD5lcRtrM_eaLWNhryLDHbgZ2KevqTaZg/" style="height: 334px; left: 310px; opacity: 1; top: 227px; width: 500px;" /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
If I had this to do again, I would have chosen to make the font larger. I think this one is less than 3 inches tall. It kind of gets lost in the final look...to come later.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>

Today was the first day we baked/cooked something. I will be the first to admit, a cook, I am not. So, I was scared to venture into new recipe territory with children that do not share my DNA. So I Pinterested fudge recipes and came across at <a href="http://crisco.com/" x-apple-data-detectors-result="0" x-apple-data-detectors-type="link" x-apple-data-detectors="true">Crisco.com</a>. It seemed easy.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<img id="img8938b285-08f5-415c-b9fc-109874dd9642" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-cIvlHw-Japc/UMeLJIMe36I/AAAAAAAAEXo/HL4n4TgOGyA/%25255BUNSET%25255D.jpg" style="height: 334px; width: 500px;" /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I was familiar with the ingredients:</div>
<div>
Cocoa Powder</div>
<div>
Vanilla Extract</div>
<div>
Butter</div>
<div>
Marshmellow Cream (ok..this one was new to me)</div>
<div>
Evaporated milk</div>
<div>
Semi sweet chocolate chips</div>
<div>
Sugar</div>
<div>
Walnut</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
To my surprise, there is no baking involved, just some melting and pouring.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<img id="imga7a4e1a2-b681-4263-b5ee-fe92c8c023cc" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-SLvnjn2_mwE/UMeLKMt3YfI/AAAAAAAAEXw/onugT8pA0T8/%25255BUNSET%25255D.jpg" style="height: 334px; width: 500px;" /></div>
<br />
<img id="img891ce46d-fb1b-479c-8779-b1ae18638989" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-ycTUswv1Mjo/UMeLK6DAVzI/AAAAAAAAEX4/-CnfruY4p_0/%25255BUNSET%25255D.jpg" style="height: 334px; width: 500px;" /><br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It was delicious, only it never really "set". It seemed like really thick frosting, with walnuts. My daughter sprinkled the nuts...little uneven but great anyway.</div>

We had some really bad storms come through last night. All the kids are new drivers and we decided it wasn't worth their llives to have them drive out in the rain. But the stockings are huge! The picture doesn't represent the size very well but each one is about 2-3 feet tall. And I got them at the dollar store. Can you believe it? <br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So we will decorate them while we watch The Grinch that Stole Christmas. Which is good news because I honestly didn't have enough decor for large stockings. So I have this weekend to get more items for the stockings.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>

I was worried about writing letters to Santa. I wasn't sure if the kids would like it. Ok, I call them "kids" but they are really young adults. So I wasn't sure if this would be considered lame and if it would take more than 5 minutes. But, to my surprise, they had fun. They watched Elf on ABC family 25 Days of Christmas...I know I know..it is on our list to do next week. However, they took a vote and have changed that to How the Grinch Stole Christmas.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So they thought long and hard about their lists. You would think they were writing their last will and testament. The form I printed out had only a certain amount of lines to write things and they wanted each one to count. So they colored and doodled around the page, while they thought. And they discussed Santa and if he was real. They decided that he was real. Seriously, he is real and they had valid reasons to why he existed. So, Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. He is the spirit of giving that takes over the world the month of December. The first gift was Christ. That precious moment when God came down in form of man...the first gift...but not the greatest...that would come later.</div>

Home Alone is a tradition in our home. Christmas doesn't even start until we see these movies. We consider them a classic and a family tradition. I hope my daughter carries it into her children's lives.<br />

Sounds sorta creepy doesn't it? Like the title to a new Horror flick. But it isn't. It is the exact opposite. You do something kind for someone you don't know and ask them to pay it forward. I had never heard of it before but thanks to Pinterest...my world grew a little bigger. I went to a website and got this:</div>
<div style="border: currentColor;">
<br /></div>
<div style="border: currentColor;">
<br /></div>

<a href="http://andersruff.blogspot.com/2010/11/free-printable-youve-been-elfed-door.html" target="_blank">http://andersruff.blogspot.com/2010/11/free-printable-youve-been-elfed-door.html</a></div>
<div>
She has all three printouts that you need. The idea is that you get a basket and fill it with goodies and three pages. The first explains that they have been elfed with goodies. Now it is their turn to share goodies with two of their neighbors, with a copy of explanation and notices to put on their door that they have been elfed. (So you don't get elfed twice). Is "elfed" a word? Well it is now. So is "elfing".<br />
<br /></div>
<div>
So we put together baskets with items to make S'mores, hot chocolate, some candy canes and three ornaments.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So the kids made 4 baskets and took them to three different neighborhoods. Drama 1 (Some of the kids didn't want to make the baskets, they only wanted to deliver them...so they are not in the picture...at the request of the girls.) They decided to take one to school on Monday to start the Elfing at school with the teachers. The first Elfing...epic fail, according to my daughter. They went up to a neighbor's door, put the basket at the front door and ran. Well they hid behind bushes to see what would happen. Well another neighbor saw the kids running and hiding (he has motion sensors in his yard because he has had some of his yard decorations stolen in the past) and he yelled at them. When my daughter went up to him to explain, he just yelled, " I don't care what you are doing, leave them alone, they have small children...stay out of their yard. BAAAAHUMBUG!!!" Okay, he didn't add the bahumbug....I did. I saw it happen so I went to his house to explain. He rolled his eyes and said well it seems like a nice idea. and Bah humbug...</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Well they were scared after that time but they went on and delivered two more . These people were more welcoming and one invited them inside her home to see her Christmas decor. So I will call them a SUCCESS!</div>

It seems like just yesterday I was taking her to her first day of school. And now, in a blink of an eye, she is a Junior. It doesn't hit me more than when I have to write or say Junior. You see, to me, she is still just Gabrielle. She is still my little girl. So all you new moms, take heed. When someone says time just flies, believe it. I use to just smile when I heard those words when my daughter was younger. But you want to know something? They are right. Where did the time go? Next year she will be a Senior and then off to college. And when she leaves, this will become her childhood home. It will no longer be a place of comfort and family and home. No, it will become a memory that she revisits from time to time for Holidays. I have 18 months left and I want to make them count. Oh, how I envy those that read this while their baby naps or are at school. How I wish I could go get one more glass of water before she goes to bed or carry her to her room. No, for me, those days are gone.</div><div><br></div><div>So this past year, while pinning, I came across several lists of things to do for 25 days in December. So I decided to try one this year. But with two funerals in two months time, both out of town, I fell behind in my Christmas planning. So I didn't create my list until November 30th. That's right. I gave myself less than 24 hours to prepare for this task.<div><br></div><div>My mission: To invite as many teenagers as possible to show up at my house everynight for 25 nights. We would create memories for them and they will learn the true meaning of Christmas...spending time with family and friends, give and do for others. My goal was to do something in the kitchen, something in the neighborhood and something in the heart each week. I made 20 invitations in My Digital Studio, a digital scrapbooking software offered by Stampin Up!. </div><div><br></div><img id="img230acc6a-1fea-4a2b-a2f8-1341bfa9478a" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-O0zacH02kiM/ULwOb6_B3gI/AAAAAAAAECE/0eULibDVfoA/%25255BUNSET%25255D.jpg" style="height:700px;width:500px;opacity:1;left:310px;top:410px" class="" mvc="false"></div><div><br></div><div>I printed two per page and printed ten pages. Eventhough, I only printed twenty, anyone that has one can bring friends. No one is obligated to come everyday The days in bold are activities that fall on Saturday and Sunday. My goal is to share with you each day...the good and the bad. Wish us luck!</div><div><br></div><div><img id="img6f8897d0-103e-4fe0-924c-89b0ea12285c" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-9GaPAGzXI7Q/ULwOcg8h_wI/AAAAAAAAECM/Ai5-li82UDs/%25255BUNSET%25255D.png" style="height:218.268550157547px;width:315.8561954498291px;background-color:transparent;box-shadow:none;opacity:1;left:272px;top:206px" mvc="false" class="" rotate="5.352603912353516" scale="0.7"><br></div></div>Rozettehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02901595993144780703noreply@blogger.com0
